Perhaps the best know Japanese song outside of Japan was by Kyu Sakamoto, who achieved a number 1 hit in 1963 with the song "Sukiyaki".

  • "Godzilla" is a single by U.S. hard rock band Blue Öyster Cult, the first track on the band's fifth studio album Spectres.
  • "Hiroshima" is an anti-war song performed by British band Wishful Thinking 1971, charting in 1978.
  • "Japanese Boy" is a hit single by Scottish singer Aneka, released in July 1981.
  • "Mr. Roboto" is a song by American rock band Styx, released as the lead single from their eleventh studio album, Kilroy Was Here (1983).
  • Seiko Matsuda - A popular J-pop singer in Japan, Seiko Matsuda released the song "The Right Combination" in collaboration with Donnie Wahlberg in 1988, which reached number 77 on the Billboard Hot 100.
  • Tatsuro Yamashita - Known as the "King of City Pop" in Japan, Tatsuro Yamashita had a few hits in the United States. His song "Loveland, Island" reached number 84 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1982.
  • Kitaro - A new-age musician and composer, Kitaro's album "Silk Road" was released in 1980 and reached number 102 on the Billboard 200 chart.
