Samurai, by SEGA, is a 2D arcade fighting game. The main character is a samurai who fights with several opponents in an enclosed area. In the arena are four opponents - the rest of the enemies are trying to help them, throwing shurikens and using a hook with rope. If the player defeats all enemies, he will fight against the master samurai. The game ran on the Sega Vic Dual arcade system board. It was the first known brawler, featuring a single opponent fighting against multiple opponents in melee martial arts combat. This predated the first beat 'em up, Kung-Fu Master (1984). It was also first known hack & slash brawler, pressing a sword button to slash enemies with the samurai player character's katana blade. It was also the first known action game to feature a boss fight with a boss opponent, predating other arcade games such as Sasuke vs Commander and Phoenix later on in 1980. * Publication date: 1980 * Released: 1980 * Platform: Arcade * Developed by SEGA Enterprises Ltd. * Published by SEGA Enterprises Ltd. * Interface: Direct control * Setting: Japan (Ancient/Classical/Medieval) * Visual: Fixed / flip-screen * Gameplay: Arcade, Fighting * Narrative: Martial arts * Perspective: Top-down * Genre: Action * Play it at Archive.org * Game Footage on YouTube
