Giorno is born Haruno Shiobana on April 16, 1985, to a Japanese mother and DIO, whose body at this point is Jonathan Joestar’s.

Textual materials and guide data describe his ethnicity as British–Japanese, while his legal nationality and cultural environment are Italian, making him a rare example of a canonically multiethnic, transnational shōnen protagonist.

His Japanese mother is neglectful, frequently leaving him alone even in early childhood.

She later marries an Italian man, moves to Italy, and has Haruno take his stepfather’s surname, leading to his life as a Japanese‑British ''hāfu'' child being raised as an Italian local.
