== Family background and mixed heritage ==

Jotaro is born in 1971 to Japanese jazz musician Sadao Kujo and Holy Kujo, née Joestar. 

Through Sadao, he inherits a fully Japanese surname, language environment, and upbringing in Japan; through Holy, he inherits the Joestar line’s British ancestry via Joseph Joestar and Italian ancestry via Suzi Q. 

On paper, Jotaro is half‑Japanese, one‑quarter British, and one‑quarter Italian, though the series itself never stops to do that exact breakdown. 
In‑universe materials and fandom often describe him simply as a “Japanese delinquent” with Western features, but his mother’s side makes his family tree as hybrid and international as the globetrotting story he stars in. 

Holy herself is coded as an Americanized Joestar—living abroad, using a Western name, and marrying a Japanese musician—so Jotaro grows up in a household that mixes Japanese domestic life with imported Western tastes and habits. 
The Kujo home in Morioh and the way his family moves between Japan and overseas locations later in life reinforce that he exists in a cultural space that is not just “purely Japanese,” even if Japan is where he is registered and educated.
