== Overview ==
Godzilla Junior (ゴジラジュニア, Gojira Junia) is the child of the Heisei Godzilla, appearing across the final three films of the Heisei continuity: Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II (1993), Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla (1994), and Godzilla vs. Destoroyah (1995). Over the course of these movies he evolves from “Baby Godzilla” to “Little Godzilla” and finally to “Godzilla Junior,” before inheriting his father’s power at the end of the series.

;Baby Godzilla – ''Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II'' (1993)
In Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II, scientists discover a mysterious egg on Adonoa Island that hatches into a small Godzillasaurus, soon dubbed Baby Godzilla. Baby has a rounder body, large eyes, and shorter limbs, giving him a more “cute,” dinosaur‑like look that contrasts with his father’s more fearsome design.

;Little Godzilla – ''Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla'' (1994)
By Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla, Baby has grown into Little Godzilla and now lives on Birth Island under Godzilla’s protection. The design pushes even further into a mascot‑style look: green skin, a lighter underbelly, and a chibi‑like body that makes him read as a playful child living alongside his father.

;Godzilla Junior – ''Godzilla vs. Destoroyah'' (1995)
In Godzilla vs. Destoroyah, Little Godzilla has matured into Godzilla Junior, taller and more proportional, with a body shape closer to Godzilla, smaller dorsal plates, and a more predatory, dinosaur‑like stance. Junior’s coloration remains green with a lighter underside, and he now uses a developed atomic breath, visually signaling that he is ready to take on his father’s mantle.

Little Godzilla’s vulnerability and fear give Godzilla a personal reason to fight, pushing the emotional stakes of the movie beyond simple city destruction.

Godzilla vs. Destoroyah finds Junior being lured toward Tokyo by the psychic Miki Saegusa and the JSDF to draw the overheating Godzilla away from heavily populated areas. Junior battles Destoroyah in its Aggregate and Flying forms and briefly defeats it, only to be killed when Destoroyah drops him onto Ariake Coliseum and blasts him with a Micro‑Oxygen beam.

After Godzilla drives Destoroyah off, he attempts to revive Junior, but the effort fails and his grief accelerates his own meltdown. When Godzilla finally dies, the radiation from his body is absorbed by Junior’s corpse, resurrecting and transforming him into a new adult Godzilla as the film ends over his silhouette in the radioactive fog.

Across the three films, Junior is portrayed as more curious and gentle than his father, especially as Baby and Little Godzilla, often behaving more like a shy but brave child than a typical city‑smashing monster. As Godzilla Junior, he becomes more assertive and courageous, willingly engaging Destoroyah alone and showing notable resilience to Micro‑Oxygen attacks before his eventual death.

Junior’s abilities grow with each stage: from simple roars and physical play as Baby, to a rudimentary atomic breath and tougher hide as Little Godzilla, and finally to a full, though slightly weaker, version of Godzilla’s atomic breath as Godzilla Junior. By the finale, the absorbed radiation from Godzilla’s meltdown implies that Junior has fully inherited his father’s power and status as the new King of the Monsters within the Heisei continuity.

The Heisei film series forms a single continuous storyline beginning with The Return of Godzilla (1984) and running through Godzilla vs. Destoroyah (1995), with Junior’s arc serving as the emotional endpoint of that continuity. Godzilla’s death and Junior’s transformation were designed to close out the Heisei saga by “killing” the original Godzilla while still leaving a successor to carry on the legacy.
