Colonel Kishi was a member of the Imperial Japanese Army during World War II. In the summer of 1944, he and his men secretly traveled to Canada and constructed a massive mortar cannon near the U.S. border, with the intent to bombard and sabotage key targets in Detroit. The American military initially believed the attacks came from bombers due to the lack of visible evidence. Reporter Betty Dean and the Sub-Mariner (Namor) tracked the bombs’ trajectory across Lake Huron, leading Namor to discover the enemy cannon. After being captured alongside fur trapper Francois, Namor and Betty managed to escape, seize control of the cannon, and use it to destroy Kishi and his crew, ending the threat. Colonel Kishi appeared in only one Golden Age Marvel story, and his demise marked the end of his wartime campaign.
