Baron Hitso was a member of the Imperial Japanese Army during World War II, stationed on a South Pacific island in 1944. He developed a special missile that carried human pilots, allowing the missile to change targets mid-flight—one of the earliest “kamikaze” weapons in comics. After successfully testing the missile, Hitso targeted an American intelligence base, luring Captain America and Bucky to his island. When they arrived, their plane was shot down and both were captured. Hitso launched Bucky in one of his kamikaze missiles, but Captain America escaped and redirected the missile and all others back to Hitso’s base, causing a massive explosion that killed Hitso and his men. His only appearance came in Captain America Comics #43 (October 1944).
