Armor[edit]
Armor AKA Hisako Ichiki (市来 久子) is a teenage mutant from Japan that studied at the Xavier Institute before becoming an X-Man. When the training squad system began, Armor was placed with Kitty Pryde's Paladins Squad with Blindfold and Wing. Her mutant power allows her to create psionic "armor", giving her enhanced strength and durability. She is currently enrolled at the Jean Grey School for Higher Learning.

Circumstances of Creation: Hisako Ichiki was introduced as part of the student body at the Xavier Institute during Joss Whedon’s acclaimed Astonishing X-Men run. While initially a background character, Whedon elevated her to a central role, using her as the "student POV" character to contrast with the veteran X-Men team.

Origin Story: Hisako Ichiki is a mutant from Tokyo, Japan. She dreamed of becoming an X-Man and enrolled at the Xavier Institute for Higher Learning. Unlike many students who viewed their powers as a curse, Hisako (though initially terrified of combat) possessed a strong desire to bring honor to her family and her ancestors through her mutant abilities.

- Psionic Exoskeleton: Hisako can generate a translucent, red psionic armor that envelops her body. This armor grants her immense superhuman strength and durability.
- Ancestral Connection: It has been stated that her armor is composed of "memory" or connected to her ancestors/family line, making her powers stronger when fueled by the memory of loved ones.

- Size Manipulation: Initially human-sized, she later learned to expand the armor to the size of a building (Kaiju-sized) or shape it into distinct forms (like claws).
- Concussive Blasts: In recent years (X-Men Gold), she developed the ability to fire concussive energy blasts from her armor, though she primarily relies on melee combat.
Defining Moments[edit]
The Death of Wing: In Astonishing X-Men #7-12, her best friend Wing is manipulated by the sentient Danger Room (Danger) into committing suicide. This tragedy hardened Hisako, shifting her from a naive schoolgirl to a determined survivor.
Battle on the Breakworld: During the climax of Whedon’s run, Hisako was crucial in the X-Men's battle against the Breakworld, proving she could fight alongside Omega-level mutants.
Defeating Bei the Blood Moon: During the X of Swords event and subsequent Arakko storylines, Hisako defeated the formidable Arakki warrior Bei the Blood Moon in the Circle Perilous, earning the respect of the warrior-centric Arakki culture.

- Wolverine (Logan): Perhaps her most significant relationship. Logan took a distinct interest in Hisako, mentoring her on the field. - Kitty Pryde (Shadowcat): Served as Hisako's headmistress and later team leader.

Following the tragic death of her friend Wing, she is swept up in the X-Men's battle against the sentient Danger Room. She joins the active team on a mission, defying the "students stay back" protocol.
"Unstoppable" (The Breakworld Saga) Issues: Astonishing X-Men Vol. 3 #19–24 + Giant-Size #1 Hisako travels into deep space with the X-Men. She survives the hostile environment of the Breakworld and plays a pivotal role in saving Earth from a giant mystical bullet, solidifying her status as a full-fledged X-Man rather than just a student "in-training."
"Messiah Complex" Issues: X-Men: Messiah Complex Crossover During the chaotic search for the first mutant baby born since M-Day, Hisako defends the Xavier Institute against an assault by the Sentinels and the Marauders. She notably combines her powers with Hellion during the defense.
The Krakoa Era & S.W.O.R.D. Issues: S.W.O.R.D. (2020) & X-Men Red (2022) Under the leadership of Abigail Brand, Hisako joins S.W.O.R.D. aboard the Peak. She becomes part of "The Six," a mutant circuit capable of retrieving mysterium from the White Hot Room. Later, residing on Arakko (Mars), she acts as a stabilizer among the warlike Arakki mutants, using her strength to earn political and social capital in their society.

- Adaptation Note: In this version, she is kidnapped by the U-Men in Japan, prompting the X-Men to travel to Tohoku. Her powers and backstory are given central focus, significantly more so than in American animated adaptations. Wolverine and the X-Men: Appears as a minor character/student.
