Doctor Nichi was a scientist and naval commander for the Imperial Japanese Army during World War II. By 1945, he developed a special torpedo which could separate hydrogen and water, creating a powerful blue flame that fed off the very water it was submerged in. Nichi deployed these torpedoes to destroy American convoys in the South Pacific. When the Sub-Mariner (Namor) attacked Nichi’s ship, he was weakened by one of these blue flame torpedoes and captured. Nichi ordered his invention to be used against another American fleet, but Namor revived quickly, knocked out Nichi, and escaped with Ming Toy. Namor redirected one of Nichi’s torpedoes back at his submarine, destroying it and killing Nichi and his crew.
