Hideko Togu

Doctor Hideko Togu was a brilliant biologist loyal to Imperial Japan during World War II, infamous for his role creating biological weapons for use against China and the Allies. Togu’s most infamous invention was a formula for vampirism, which he injected into himself and used to travel to the United States undetected. Landing at Camp Lehigh, Togu—now transformed into a bat-like “Vampire”—killed two officers and feuded with Captain America and Bucky. He could revert between human and vampiric forms, developing large wings for flight and fangs to drain victims’ blood, but sunlight forced his transformation back to human. After a clash with the heroes in a castle, he was exposed to sunlight, reverted and fell to his death. Togu only appeared in one Timely/Marvel comic, created by Al Fagaly, and his legacy remains one of the earliest supernatural-themed Japanese antagonists in Golden Age comics.
