'''Jetstream Sam''' AKA Samuel Rodrigues (サムエル・ホドリゲス, Samueru Hodorigesu) is a master of a Brazilian fighting technique called the "New Shadow School", which had some derivations from a similar Japanese fighting style. Born and raised in Brazil, he is of Brazilian-Japanese heritage. Trained in swordsmanship by his father, who was killed by a former pupil under orders from the local drug cartel, Sam inherits his Murasama sword and becomes a vigilante and mercenary before being forced into service to Desperado by Armstrong. Known by the callsigns "Jetstream" (named after the fast flowing, narrow, meandering air currents in Earth's atmosphere) and "Minuano" (named for cold southwesterly wind that blows in the southern Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul and in Uruguay), Rodrigues throws his lot with Desperado for most of the game. Raiden's rivalry with Sam is a major driving force of the plot. Sam is eventually killed by Raiden in a duel, but gifts Raiden his sword, which is eventually used in the final battle with Armstrong. An additional chapter released as downloadable content details the backstory of how Sam joined Desperado. Jetstream Sam is voiced by Hiroaki Hirata in Japanese and by Philip Anthony-Rodriguez in English.
