Nichi was a scientist working for Imperial Japan during World War II, stationed on a hidden Pacific island. There he biologically engineered massive sea monsters, which he controlled with specialized headphones, directing them to attack American ships. After his first sea monster was defeated by the Sub-Mariner (Namor), Nichi began constructing an even larger creature. Namor destroyed the second monster and triggered Nichi’s lab self-destruct, escaping as the island exploded, killing Nichi and destroying his experiments.
