Rapper Towkio was born Preston Oshita, son of a Japanese father and a Mexican mother on the South Side of Chicago. His grandparents, on his father's side, were in the Japanese internment camps during WWII.

Towkio describes his genetic mashup as, “my dad was Japanese on the South Side, my mom was Mexican on the South Side, and they end up meeting at a high school dance…and now you got Young Towki out here.”
