Gorosaurus

Gorosaurus (ゴロザウルス, Gorozaurusu) is a fictional dinosaur kaiju produced by Toho, first appearing in King Kong Escapes (1967) before crossing over into the Godzilla franchise in Destroy All Monsters (1968). Designed as an Allosaurus-like theropod, Gorosaurus stands approximately 35 meters tall and is distinguished by his powerful hind legs and his signature move—a leaping kangaroo kick that he uses to devastating effect in both of his film appearances.

Gorosaurus is introduced in King Kong Escapes as an inhabitant of Mondo Island, where he attacks a group of humans and battles King Kong before being defeated. In Destroy All Monsters, he is one of the many Earth monsters living on Monsterland, a remote island where humanity has gathered the world's kaiju in an attempt to coexist peacefully. When the alien Kilaaks seize control of the monsters and weaponize them against the world's major cities, Gorosaurus is sent to destroy Paris, famously demolishing the Arc de Triomphe by bursting up through the ground. In the climactic battle at Mount Fuji against King Ghidorah, Gorosaurus demonstrates surprising tactical intelligence, sneaking behind King Ghidorah while Godzilla and Anguirus occupy his outer heads, then delivering a devastating kangaroo kick to Ghidorah's back that breaks his spine and turns the tide of the battle. After the defeat of the Kilaaks, Gorosaurus returns to Monsterland to live out his days peacefully.

Gorosaurus is one of the few Toho monsters to appear in a King Kong film before joining the Godzilla series, and he holds the distinction of having met both King Kong and Godzilla on screen—a unique position in the Showa-era monster roster. His burrowing ability, shown when he erupts through the streets of Paris, is not explained by his biology in King Kong Escapes and is generally considered a Destroy All Monsters–specific trait. He did not appear in any further Toho productions after 1968.
