Doctor Light

A collection of Japanese, Nikkei and Hāfu characters that appear in Western Comics—Marvel and DC mostly.

We've collected as many characters as we have found to date. Updates are happening all the time. There are a couple of superhero teams which are of great interest such as Big Hero 6 within the Marvel Universe, and Big Science Action in the DC Universe.

Of course there are plenty of Japanese characters in the vast array of manga and anime titles, but that is beyond the scope of our work here. We are cataloguing characters in the West with a connection to Japan. Hopefully someone will write their Ph.D. on the representation of all of these characters. For now, we're just trying to collect a giant list and see what happens next.

  1. Rumiko Fujikawa
  2. Sam (Asami Koizumi)
  3. Samurai Jack Cartoon Network/Toonami
  4. Shamara Tako is Dragon Lord (Marvel)
  5. Shinchuko Lotus from Sons of the Tiger (Marvel)
  6. Turbo from the New Warriors (Marvel)
  7. Yukio ninja ally of the X-Men (Marvel)
  8. Itsu Akihiro (Birthplace and Place of Death)
